The following guideline for using a periods with abbreviated personal and courtesy titles is in accordance with the AHDI Book of Style 3rd. Ed.

It is strongly recommended that you check facility/employer guidelines for preference. It is MT Desk's experience that the guideline as outlined is not widely accepted.

With personal and courtesy titles, do not use periods unless it is known that the person referred to prefers their inclusion. According to the AHDI Book of Style 3rd. Ed., there is a trend towards dropping these periods.
