Capitalizing parenthetical expressions
If a sentence, independent clause, word, phrase or subordinate clause is set off by dashes or parentheses within another sentence (parenthetical expression, even if set off in dashes), do not capitalize the first word within the parenthetical expression unless it is a word that is automatically capitalized, such as a proper noun or acronym.
