Plural forms for microorganisms
When referring to the common vernacular plural of a genus, use lowercase letters. Consult the most recent edition of a medical dictionary for clarification if necessary.
For organisms that do not have a common plural, add the word species or organisms to the genus name to indicate the use is plural.
